I paint jokes to wander by Berlin. Humor is my tool for coping with the difficulties of life, migration, and the midlife crisis. Through oil painting, I try to answer the eternal question: Why are we here? Since my internet bubble is quite existentialist, I’ve concluded that my generation is trying to survive adulthood, the system, and capitalism. However, it’s very likely that, like any good bubble, this is just an illusion, and in reality, people are very clear about what they’re doing. For my part, I’m simply moved by either an excess of self-awareness or utter madness.

I select viral images from the internet or memes (the emotions of the 21st century), because by capturing these widely reproduced images in paint, I might halt their disintegration in the constant flow of the internet and their amplification on social media; thereby giving concrete material form to a concept that exists only on our screens.

On the other hand, from the perspective of migration, I wonder: What does it really mean to belong? What makes me feel connected to a piece of land on the other side of the world, more so than the one I live in? What binds me so strongly to Chile is humor, laughter, and the ability to refer to deeply specific concepts that are understood without needing to be explained. However, as time goes by while living abroad, another language emerges—foreign humor—something that exists only in a state of rootlessness.

Ecological note: For me, it’s very important that there is a consciousness of sustainability during the artistic process. I recycle everything I produce: the plastic from packaging, the paper for transferring images to the canvas, the water I use to clean my brushes, and I’m now figuring out what to do with the chemicals used to clean varnish. I also avoid buying new materials; I use second-hand, abandoned, or donated items. I use the least amount of paint possible (even storing it in jars so it doesn’t dry out quickly), repurpose old clothes for cleaning rags, use packaging cartons for supports, and keep fruit containers to protect the works. The process isn’t perfect, but I strive to improve it every day
